Ayurveda Basic Course

Ayurveda care is committed to teaching the cream of Ayurvedic theory and practice in an interesting and fun format. The course is designed to equip students with a firm understanding of Ayurvedic principles and their practical application in curative and preventative health care. On successful course completion students will be adept at Ayurvedic diagnostic skills, Ayurvedic massage, lifestyle guidance, Ayurvedic nutrition and the use of potent herbs and oils.

Learning outcome

At the completion of the course students receive a certificate of attainment that qualifies them as an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant.

Name of the course:
Basic course in Ayurvedic Medicine (Sutra)

Eligibility: Students should have a minimum standard of anatomy & physiology. The course is designed for Health Practitioners, Para medicals, Nutritional or dieticians, Physiotherapists, Masseurs.

Course outcomes: Students from this certificate course will be able to execute Ayurvedic treatments, dietary consultations according to the individual constitutions and disease. They will also be able to give necessary information's regarding their preventive, curative and rejuvenate aspects and a lifestyle.

Registration: The course is not on the National register or recognized training programme

The course consists of two levels of 25 lectures and a practical training of 10 demonstrations. All together, there are 60 lecture- demonstrations.

Exams will be conducted at the end of two levels. There will be a clinical training of 20 hours

before awarding the Certificate The certificate will be issued after the successful completion of the two levels of course.

Syllabus

Seminar 1: History of Ayurveda and Basic Principles Veda and Ayurveda., Ayurveda as the art of living & the science of healing, Introduction to Sankhya theory and the roots of Vedic philosophy. The scientific principles of Ayurveda. Spirituality in daily life and the aims of life; dharma, artha, kama and moksha. The present situation of Ayurveda in India.

Seminar 2: Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology The Ayurvedic understanding of and inter-relationship of the body, mind and spirit.

Body: The five basic elements of creation (Panchamahabhuta), Patho-physiological factors (Tridosha), Structure or tissues and Waste products (Dhatus & Malas), The concept of biological fire (Agni), Concept of endo toxins Definition, properties, condition and disease relation. (Ama) Gunas (universal qualities).

Mind: The inner equipment of mind (antakaran), vital air (prana), sensory mind (manas), mind (chitta), intellect (buddhi), retention), memory (dhruti (smruti) ego (andahamkara).

Spirit: soul (jiva), sheaths (karma, samskaras, koshas): physical body (anna), vital air (prana), sensory mind (manh), mind (jnana), intellect (vijnana), bliss sheath (ananda). vital energy (Chakra system and kundalini).

Seminar 3 :Preventive medicine in Ayurveda daily routine). (Dinacharya) Personal development, Seasonal routines- Routine in winter , LateWinter, Routine in Spring, Summer, Monsoon and Autumn. Constitution analysis (Prakruti).

Seminar 4: Nutrition Concept of Nutrition: Medicinal properties of spices, Ayurvedic concept of digestion, assimilation and elimination. Agni (jathara agni, bhuta agni, dhatu agni, cellular agni) and the clinical assessment of agni. Nutrition for Vata, Pitta, Kapha and the mix types. Taste (Rasa), energy (virya), post-digestive effect (vipaka), and prabhava In this seminar the students will learn different kinds of food items and its preparation for different kinds of constitutional types (Prakrti) and diseases types (Vikrti)

Seminar 5: Treatment (Practical training) Ayurvedic oil applications: Poorvakarma(Traditional Ayurveda treatments) Abhyanga, Siro dhara, Kaya seka, Pinda sweda This weekend is designed for different way of oil applications on the body and head according to the traditional practises of Kerala.

Seminar 6: Pharmacology Ayurvedic medicine preparation: Important medicinal plants, Minerals and animal products in Ayurvedic medicine; Important Ayurvedic preparations Decoctions (Kashaya) , Ayurvedic oils (Thailam), Medicated Ghee (Ghrtam), Arishtams,Gudikas, Churnas, Lehyams.

Seminar 7: Diagnose The Ayurvedic concept of health and disease Overview of Ayurvedic etiology and pathogenesis: (Nidana-panchakam), the three-fold examination (Trividha pariksha ): observation (darshana), tactile perception (sparshana), questioning (prashna) 10-aspects in Diganosis, including Pulse diagnosis. the eight-fold examination (Ashtavidha pariksha): Marmas (Ayurvedic energy points)

Seminar 8: Treatments(Panchakarma) The Ayurvedic approach to management of imbalance and disease: Detoxification (Pancha Karma) Vamana, Virechana, Vasti, Sirovireca, Raktamoksha A detoxification procedure: either palliation (shamana) or elimination (shodana), such as panchakarma. Ttherapies that are (a) antagonistic to the provoked dosha or (b) antagonistic to the disease, based on the principle that opposite qualities balance. Provide rejuvenation (rasayana) for the body in general, to increase immunity, to strengthen specific organs and tissues.

Seminar 9: Specific diseases and ist treatment methods Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Neurodermatitis, Disc Prolapse , Dysmenorrhoea , Myoma, Menopausal problems, Allergic rhinitis, Hay fever, Paralysis, Parkinson diseases, Insomnia .

Seminar 10: Yoga and Ayurveda Spiritual and philosophical aspects of Yoga - Yoga as daily practise The principles of Ayurveda in the practice of yoga. Students understand through personal experience the effect of yoga has on constitutional balance and how to restore and maintain that balance.

Ayurvedic Basic Studies (Sutra) 150 hours

Although not required, some prior knowledge or study of Ayurveda, anatomy and physiology, Sanskrit and other Vedic traditions will greatly enhance the understanding and comprehension of the program material.
